Several weeks ago I wrote about how my iPhone was stolen while I was snowboarding at Vail. Well, I have an awesome update to share. A week ago I received one of the craziest phone calls ever. It was from a lady who thought she may have my old iPhone. I confirmed the background photo and sure enough it was my phone that I had lost almost a month ago!
Apparently, her friend was at Vail that day and picked up my phone from the snow and threw it in his bag. He didn't turn it in to lost-and-found because he had heard about employees stealing valuable items and he didn't think it would get back to its original owner. By the time he looked at it, the battery was dead (probably from me calling it so many times to try to locate it) and he didn't have any way to charge it. He ignored it until he was out in Arizona and gave it to a friend who was more familiar with iPhones and had a charger. She then connected it to her computer, opened iTunes and noticed it said "Jeff Sheldon's iPhone." So she googled "Jeff Sheldon iPhone" to see what she could find, and sure enough found my blog post and connected the dots. She was happy to mail the phone back and even turned down my offer to cover the shipping cost. So now a month later, my long lost iPhone has been returned and is still in perfect condition!
The moral of this story...make sure your name is googleable and never give up hope. There are honest people in this world after all :)
