Things I Like: Tonx Coffee

Things I Like: Tonx Coffee
Update: Tonx has been acquired by Blue Bottle Coffee, but still offers the same amazing single origin subscription that Tonx built its entire company on.

Let me preface this by saying I'm not a coffee expert by any stretch and I'm sure many of you know much more about the craft of coffee than I do. This is written from the perspective of someone who wasn't a regular coffee drinker until recently and I'll explain why. To me coffee always tasted bitter and burnt and I just assumed that's what it was supposed to taste like. Sure, dump a bunch of cream, sugar or flavored syrup into it and it turns into a tasty dessert but straight black coffee didn't appeal to me. I never understood people's fascination with it except for the fact that they relied on the caffeine jolt to get them through their day.

That was until I had real, freshly-roasted coffee which is an entirely different drink from anything you get from a chain shop or off the shelf. It's hard to describe if you've never had it, but once you've tasted real coffee you know exactly what I'm talking about. It's smooth, delicious and doesn't need anything added to it. I had been hearing a lot of good things about Tonx Coffee from several of my coffee-loving friends so I figured I'd give it a try to see what all of the hype was about. Tonx is a coffee subscription that sources the best beans from around the world, roasts them here in the US, and then ships to your door in a couple days. When I cracked opened the first bag of Tonx the aroma was like nothing I had ever smelled. I've had a variety of other quality coffees from other notable shops, but Tonx brewed with an Aeropress (more on that in a future post) is just as good if not better than any coffee I've ever had. If you'd like to try what real coffee tastes like, you can pick up a free Tonx sample bag here.  (disclaimer: I was not paid to write this, but if you use that link you'll earn me some free coffee :)
