Urban Play + Sagmeister

Urban Play + Sagmeister
As part of Urban Play, an international project that promotes creativity in the public domain, Stephan Sagmeister Inc created a typographic installation made out of 250,000 Euro cent coins that covered more than 300sqm in a square in Amsterdam. The finished piece spells out "Obsessions make my life worse and my work better" which is part of Sagmeister's series called “Things I have learned in my life so far." Sagmeister's installation is one of the coolest things I have seen in a long time. Not only is the finished project an amazing piece of art because of the sheer scale and intricate detail, but the concept itself is also very fresh. Originally the installation was meant to be interacted with, as people would remove portions of it over time. Unfortunately the whole installation was removed only 20 hours after its completion, when the police received a phone call from someone who thought people were "stealing the artwork."  It's a shame that the project was misunderstood and came to such an abrupt end, but it was definitely a beautiful design while it existed.
